2, 3 or 4 inch narrowed beams

Postby 66vwkafer » Tue Jan 28, 2014 4:38 pm

I've been looking at numerous posts on the Samba about this and wanted to some feedback from you guys. Does anyone currently have a 2-4 inch narrowed beam on a 66 or older beetle? How is the handling, ride, tire rub (for wider than stock tires) additional modifications etc. I'm attempting to go back to stock front fenders from widened fiberglass and my current adj beam setup with Karman ghia discs and 195/55-15 tires is not going to work :?

Thanks for the feedback Jim. I considered going narrower but I'm trying to keep the better handling that comes with wider front tires  Do you know anyone that has tried a 3 or 4 inch custom beam w/ shock towers? How did your 2 inch beam drive and ride?

I had a 4" RLR Ron Lummus beam on the turbo car. BUT it had 1 piece front end so it cleared......... Rode like a solid go kart on steroids ! But it was slammed also so it didnt help either.

Dropped spindle vs adjusters will help.

Thanks for the input Joe. I agree Jim, my plan is to go with dropped spindles and wide 5 discs. Just don't want to go with skinny front tires if I can get away with it 8-)

Fat tires on ANY car will put your ass in the ditch when you hit the unexpected water hazzard ;) Your car looks gooooooooood as it is, why mess with it? Paint the thing , roll it. JP sez this,,,,, later dude
