Can't stop the hop

Postby 9 Fingers » Sun Oct 10, 2010 9:29 am

What is the most effective way to stop wheel hop under hard acceleration?

1. Traction bar with rubber center pad
a.) with out center pad
2. Tranny straps
3. Poly mounts
4. Bolt in Kafer bar
5. Weld in Kafer bar
6. Tranny mid mount
7. ?

Cost is also a factor.

This could have gone in "Tech Help" also, but I was hoping for a good discussion.

Ive never had that prob in a vw. Even with my old baja 1776 with 255/70/15s.

Sure all the basics are good on your car? Shocks, trailing arm bushings at the upper mount? Spring plate end cap rubbers?

My old urethane mounts now look like swiss cheese due to engine shutter. So I'm looking at solutions to stop this from happening again. I'm pulling the engine this winter to replace them and the clutch ( smoked it at Eureka). So I'm just putting out feelers as to the affectiveness of these traction aids. All the rest of the suspension components are in good shape.

I thought wheel hop was only caused with reduction boxes, which they make a kit for that you can find occasionally as they arent run much anymore.

Is your engine physically moving? When my bug had bad mounts you could feel the engine shift when you started accelerating and I just replaced the mounts with solid offroad mounts and fixed my problem. Though I'm sure new rubber mounts would work just as fine.
