Is it legal to run a plate like these in Ok? I wouldn't buy one, but could come up with appropiate year for my car. Anyone know what the law says? JP

True, but $15 is a small price to look cool.

Every time I go out there, I want to bail over the counter & go postal. Gotta be some of the dumbest okies working there. Hummm, your $15 didn't hold up, looks like the price of cool is going up. I might just cruise around like a dirty old man!! JP

I found a 1961 license plate at an antique store for $4. Can I just take that one in or do I have to buy the $80 from the website above. They had other years if someone wants to make trip to Enid. I am gonna mount on front until I am ready to make street legal. Been sitting 12 years. 71 super

you can use the one from the antique store as long as that EXACT number combination is not already registered.
You have to go to the tax commission downtown. tag agencies cant do it. its like 15.00 fee.

Oh and of course the year of the plate and the year of your car have to be the same.

You can also do it by mail. If I was any good at this, we'll try any way, I could help you.

You can go on line at http://www.tax.ok.gov/mvforms/750-b-09.pdf

Knowing my short falls I'll try another way...

http://www.oktax.ok.us
click on left Motor Vehicles
click on Special Plates Registration Forms
click on Vintage Decal App

They only issue on a calendar year basis. I send my in eary Dec and get by the 1st of the year. I don't know if they will issue any other time of the year. Fee is now up to 21.50 (20.00 plus 1.50 mail fee)
You also have to sign that it is an official OK license plate which is at least 21 years old. How they'd know if it came from a site that makes NEW old plates I don't know but it leads me to think they are not legal. ( only REAl OK plates...but the sites make them look so real I THINK you could get by)

Send/Contact:
Oklahoma Tax Commission
Motor Vehicle Division
Special License Plate Section
2501 Lincoln Boulevard
Oklahoma City, OK 73194-0013
405-521-2468

OK OK I STILL didn't get it right

Maybe try http://www.tax.ok.gov/sp1.html or http://www.oktax.state.ok.us

Now when THIS doesn't work try searching Oklahoma Tax Commission and go from there.

SORRY  But I did tell you I'm not good at this.

Its only if the cops know the plates legit or not.

IF you go downtown, they renew it on the spot, and can see if the number is already in use.

I just talked to tag agency and they said vintage tags can only be used at parades and car shows and such. You can't actually drive around with one in place of regular tag. If anyone else knows otherwise please let me know.
