FBS (friggin' blu square)

Well it runs, sorta. Raised the right side to install the jumpers on the starter the other day. Left it up overnite, had some oil in the floor, thought trans. boots. So I got the carbs & linkage on today, started up, bad fuel leak. Let it dry, fix leak, start back up, sounds decent, but might have a miss. Throttling with one hand, look under the car, makes the bp spill look tame.........shit. Yank the hotwire, jack the bitch up thinking a busted oil cooler as the gusher was on that side. Roll the creeper thru a mountain of kitty litter to check it out. There's a large gaping hole where the #3 intake pushrod tube used to live, no tube-no rod, wtf. So I guess I'll pull the bitch out cuz it needs a douche extremely bad. Hell, I wuz ready to speed squarely (no pun) down the drive with no brakes in my new car, now no early christmas. That's it for now, got other shit to tend to..............JP 8-)

put the springs on the lift gate, only lost one knuckle & little blood. stopped by bethany, picked up a cheesy plastic pushrod tube to maybe slow the gusher from the missing one. will see how the engine sounds when it retains oil & run on four cyls. today. may hafta hook up an emergency brake before the maiden voyage thru the trees....later

Well, I went to crowin' too soon. The big blue book don't say which springs are right & left. Hung the door, it came down on my head.Take it apart to change springs, found out why they have a special tool to preload 'em. Snap-on prybar ain't got the balls to do it, so grab the torch & modify a jack handle. Get the springs in, hang the door, the one hinge I didn't replace has a crack,,,,shit. Clean it good & weld it, no go. The bushing is worn that cocks the hinge to the side, so it wants to buckle. Take it apart, replace hinge, then put it back together. you know those little sharp things that hook on headliners, well I found one with the back of a finger, with the help of a spring on the other side that has a lot of tension....shit again. Finally get everything going, then realize the striker is worn out, back to death row to get another one, good one on parts car. That's about it for the day, enough blood & cussin'. Gonna pick up another parts square this morn, before the game........later 8-)

Tailgate is up & running in good shape. Put the cheesy plastic pushrod in, pulled the rocker cover to put the missing pushrod in, holy shit batman, someone has stolen the rocker assy & the pushrods. The head looks like it is brand new inside, but the pushrod tubes are coated with years of crud, wazzup? So I round up the parts, torque & set valves, fire it up. Man it runs like a singer sewing machine. Only run about 3 min. , thought I might outta chek the oil (no shit dipstik, you might ort to). Oh yeah, the same thief that lifted the engine parts must have been the sorry bastard that took the lower right bearing outta the front beam, it's gone. Also has the snubbers hacked off, but it looks like if I lower they need to be gone anyway. Well off to chek the oil & back to nascar....later

What a saga!
Guess its good you got that parts car!

Sounds like a typical non-Vw owner car. All rigged up, put it back factory and not much is wrong.

got a '66 parts wagen Sat. Still gotta go to Bryan's & get a big ugly breather to filter the air. Engine sounds great , but has a unknown sound, stethescope don't pinpoint it. Gotta pull the pedal assy, to get the clutch & gasser checked out. then fix some kinda brakes b4 maiden voyage, I got a lot of trees to stop against, but then hafta take the tractor & yank the bitch back up the hill...........gotta go, outta beer.

Well, after not much consideration & quite a bit 'o searchin' on da Samba, the blu bitch is gonna get an IRS. Got a beetle axle now, looks like an early t-3 is outta the question, so irs. Got two late disc front beams, so will be all 4 bolt (sorry Jimbo, sure wanted to try on the BRMs). Well that is the report for now, wish I had more, will later............... 8-) BASTARDIZE IT

sounds like a salesman trying to dump some wheels.....lmfao. I think the irs is a better bet with very little neg. camber. Looking at moving the front beam up about 2" or 3", should get it down with some 50's or 60's on the front. if I can get the stance that the ghia has, I would buy it. as is it looks like a coon hunting wagon, pointing at the moon, with no room for improvement. I looked at a bunch of pix today, seems no one can lower a t-3 very much. we will see what happens, we will see. might hire the sawzall samuri..............later

I found another wishbone out back so I relieved it of the control arm brackets. Coulda drove to calif. & picked up some by the time I got these cut out & dressed up..........well maybe to El Reno & back. Damn krauts weld the hell outta stuff. Got some more of my favorite stuff, sandblasting, to do. Still need some old control arm bushings, guess I'll have to rob another wishbone of the control arms. Need em to make the jigs for the brackets. That's it today, plowed till afternoon, will try to do better tomorrow...........later.. 8-)

Hey Jimmy, how many splines did you do on the front of the square? I got the blue bitch inside to jack around with it some. I gotta change the beam out, got one lower bearing GONE on right side. Still working on the house, got most of the laminate down, got lotsa room now the ol' woman is gone. later, JP 8-) oh, yeah, the welding is gorrilla welds, not very pretty but stronger than hell. Depends on what tires/rims you run.

I had the front one tooth in the front back when i had the BRMs sat pretty even front and back. then i got the red ones, 2 in front now.

Also go the vin# stuff back!

ok, fired the stove yest., dropped the front 2 outer splines. car looks lots better. that outer bearing WAS completely gone. all rubber seals shot, rubbers on ball joints shot, I suspect the joints are shot too. some monkey had been under there, some of the bolts & grub screws were loose. oh, well, I have 3 front beams so I can probably piece on together, damn brngs are $96 a piece. guess I will pull the motor & rear crossmember today see what else is effed up on this pos. stay warm airheads, later.....JP will give ya a call one eve. about the title Jimmy....... 8-)

ImageImageImagefirst pic is stock height with 165 tires, second is with two inside clicks & one outside, lowered 4 3/4". no turning with this setup & wheels. last is with different mangles & 135 tires, has a full 6" drop & will turn. this setting puts it about 2" from the bumpers w/no snubbers. it also puts the front about half inch lower than the rear which has 6.00-15 tires. I had to lift the front of the beam with the little tires. looks like the outside clicks are 2" and the inside is 1 3/8", so I know where to go to tune it where I want. gonna pull the rear qtrs. so I can access the rear susp. cuz I gotta grease the noisy plastic bushings, & I might want to raise it a half inch. I might take a day off to let my wounds heal & think about what the hell I want to do. ..later JP CEO, Stella Skunkwerks, Stella , America I have the sox on today there, rotund one.

ImageImageImageI think this is where it will set, at least you can look over the trunk from the seat & not get nosebleed. Got 6.00-15 tires in rear & 135R15 in front, got a conversion chart so I can get wider tires ( same tall) when I score some wheels. Think I will throw this out & put some pans in the Ghia, tired of the bitch cryin' from neglect...later airheads JP CEO Stella Skunkwerks, Stella, OK. 8-)

Ok, the bitch is back. After EXTENSIVE modifications to the suspension ( with several scrapes, cuts & contusions with considerable loss of money & blud) it is sitting like it should. Image [imImageg][/img]bottom of the beam brackets are just below the scrub line (illeagle in some states) but who gives a damn. Now gotta tear it apart & make things all good & torqued so if it falls all apart I can say I really tried to do it right. It 's just bout ugly as my first wife, so that makes me want to drink mo beers. But the ghia is sittin cryin for new pans, so I think ugly betty will get her ass outta the shop fer a while. stay safe airheads, later..........JP

due to the obivious lack of enthusiam on this forum, I think I will no longer post nor read. I know there is more than 4 or 5 aircooled enthusiasts in central ok. There seem to be no cooperation nor comradship amongst the ones that are signed up on here. so I bid adeiu, caio, adios & best of luck......JP hmfic, stella skunkworks

I agree, Gimpy! There is a huge lack of enthusiasm in this forum. It really went down hill once we were booted from the last server. Do you post on any other VW forums??

Hey don't stop posting. You help keep me modivated to finish mine.

I just realized that we were back to the old format. I didn't know if we were posting on this or not. I'm sure I am not the only confused one. Speaking of which you haven't posted on my last build status.

Spring is coming and things will start happening now.

Come on Gimpy. I'm sitting here holding a two month old baby. Even though we thought you might have died under that friggin blue square I still need someone to live vicarously through. If we all coughed up a little cash we could get a shoutbox or similar to liven things up a bit.

So some new rubber and she's ready for the long haul. Right now it's just around town. Need to lower it something awful though. Looks like a 4x4 lol. I'll get pics up tonight. two pix the limit for me or what? I need an old gas cap (top of it in reasonable shape) to cover the alt. bolt. on this abortion. This is for the t-4 in betty if it ever gets goin'. If anyone has a cap, I will gladly buy you a pint of white port or a 40 to quench your thirst (you must share tho) Update, I have a gas cap now. but need an old rusty tank for the filler neck. Just hate to cut up a good one, but I will iffen I have to.

I want to have access to the alt. bolt so I can turn the motor over for timing & valve adj. purposes. Does that make sense?
