Growling noise

Postby BlakeH00 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 12:35 pm

A week after I got back from Wichita my bus started making a growling/grinding noise. Its not the engine/trans because it still happens out of gear, even with the engine shut off. It gets worse as I speed up. Could it be the wheel bearing?

ya or maybe a CV.

It change pitch tone with turning? (front bearing)
Brakes pushed or not?

Accel, decel, maybe the CV.

Jack it up start the engine in gear and listen. to get CV spinning at road speed, still do it?

Spin the front wheel. Push pull top and bottom of wheel, movement?

Started squealing when I make right turns, and the front cap in the center of the FR wheel is very hot to the touch after drive 1/2 a mile. Wheel does not wiggle when shaken but I don't have a way to test the cv's like that at the moment. But the hot cap means bearing correct?

I just noticed it getting hot today. But they are cheap so I'll order some tonight, might as well do both sides. Looks pretty simple in the Bentley.
