My Father's 73 Beetle

Postby Yellow73Beetle » Fri Oct 04, 2013 4:08 pm

Hi Folks,

My father is 88 and has a beautifully restored (done about 12 years ago and parked in a garage and rarely driven ever since) 1973 Beetle (not a super beetle) located in Guthrie. He is the original owner and it has about 230,000 miles on it (he had the engine rebuilt at some point, but cannot recall when). He no longer drives and we'd like to find a good home for it with someone who will continue to take care of it. It runs fine and the only issue I can see is that the steering is pretty sloppy on center. I have heard that the steering can be tightened up through adjustment. I'd like to find out the following through membership in this site:

1. Where would be a good place in the Guthrie/OKC area to get an old beetle like this serviced?
2. What forums do you recommend for someone selling an old restored beetle?

Please let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Bill

VW tolerance for steering wheel play is 1" either side of center. It might not be out of normal wear. Thesamba.com is agood site for VW classifieds.
