My name is Jesse, I am from moore. Got my 68 Type 1 monday!

Hello all,

My name is Jesse. I am from Moore Oklahoma and I snagged me a 1968 standard beetle. It's got baja fenders, hood, and rear. I have the engine for it, but it came seperated from the car. I am having some trouble figuring out where to start with her. I'm thinkin about replacing the clutch and a few things on the engine that aren't to expensive and should be replaced. I'm really lost because I didn't take the engine out and I am trying to figure out how to put it back in. I'm really concerned about the wiring.

A little about me...

I'm a newb when it comes to VWs. Never owned one and the only knowledge I have is from the past months of reading about them on the interwebs. I'm currently going to school for computers/networking. I make industrial/synthpop music in a band named "Bedlam Emotion." I currently own a little honda civic del sol VTEC with the DOHC B16A3 engine. It's painted canary yellow and lowered with a few mods. My daily driver is a 2000 Honda Accord V6.

I'm hoping to make some new friends on here. Maybe have somebody come over and have a beer and show me the ropes of VW ownership.

Welcome. I would recommend a bentley manual for staters will show you how to pretty much do everything you need. You can usaually pick them up on the samba for cheap.link to one http://www.amazon.com/Volkswagen-Beetle ... 0837604168
I'm sure some folks are suckers for beer around here....

Well, thanks guys. I already have the bently manual. I know they have a copy of Muirs How to keep your vW alive at borders. I just don't have the extra $25 on me at the moment. I've been doing a hell of a lot of research online and on the samba. Watching You tube videos, Bugme videos, and random how-tos. But, nothing really teaches you like hands on experience.

I haven't really even started on the bug because I'm still reading up on stuff. I'll post some pictures up later on tonight and let you guys give me your opinions on where I should start. I wanna just slap the motor in there and try to fire her up. But, I know that's probably not the right way to go about it.

Oh, and Jim... I might just take you up on that offer one of these days. I need to learn!

I haven't done it before, I'm sure it will take me forever. Plus, I can't figure out how to move the engine onto the floor jack without some help.
