NO OIL PRESSURE ?? Norskemann

Postby derbug » Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:34 am

I am starting a new thread/topic for Norskemann
I am not going to post in a trashed out thread/topic
NO OIL PRESSURE:
1. incorrect bearing tolerance or just wrong
bearings for the application
2. Oil pump faulty, leaking back into the case
and not building pressure to the oil galleries
3. Oil pump jumped off the cam slot
4. Oil pump drive gear slipping on the shaft
5. Oil pick up tube loose where goes into the case
6. Has to be an internal leak somewhere....for
no pressure at the sender
7. front oil relief valve, one close to the flywheel
(there may be other reasons, but this is all that I can
think of at the moment)

Norskemann had stated that engine was full of oil
and if it did lose power....(not an ignition problem)
but an oil starvation problem, then the damage has
already been done  the loss of power would be a
friction of the bearings with damage to the bearings
and possible the crank ??
You are looking at tearing the engine down and finding the
cause....even if it a faulty oil pump...and replacing...
still doubt would help at this time.....but one needs to
carefully tear down, and look for the cause.

From what I have read, and yes I do not have a first
hand personal experience with GEX, their warranty program
is really a dead end, unless you paid by credit card,
and can get your credit card company to pull back
your money from them and use that as leverage
to recoup your loss

I called GEX and I am really regretting this purchase. Their "mechanic" that barely spoke english told me to take pictures of the engine and make sure I got their company sticker in one of the photos then email them to him and he would call me back if he was able to find out what the problem might be. Now, please tell me how in the world an oil feed problem is going to be diagnosed with PICTURES?!? So, I'm taking it as I'm basically being told to pound sand. I tried last night when I got home from work to see if I was able to get any oil out by turning the motor over and I heard a clanking, metal on metal sound right where the oil pump is. I'm not 100%, but I think the oil pump has gone bad. Since I'm clearly not going to get help from GEX I'm going to pull the oil pump in the morning and see what happens. The parts still cost me less than it would have to get them from my usual supplier, even if I don't send the core (which I have no intention to do now.)

EDIT:

Thanks for starting the new thread.

I still have my old engine and the massive oil leak turned out to be a split push rod tube. Unfortunately the damage had already been done.

Using a oil pump puller....after pulled:
check to see if you have a flat cam gear or
dished....also if flat cam check that bolted on
or rivets...check the oil pump drive gear, the one
that you can pull the gear and shaft...make sure
tight on the shaft....and also check the cam slot
to see if cam gear/slot has slipped...look for
shinny wear on the cam gear slot area(face of cam)....
check to see if proper pump for the cam that
is in the engine....
(dished cam will have 4 rivets) flat cam will have
3 bolts or rivets....speculate
GEX is probably using reground cams

Probably will be easier to
identify the cam....then take the pump to
Bethany Imports and let Ron or Roger look
at it....look for wear on the oil gear cover plate...
and look for wear in the oil pump itself where
the two gears spin in the housing....also look
for junk in the cam gears....and the oil.

look at the body of the oil pump, (back
of pump) to see if cam has rubbed or rubbing against
the pump itself.....lots to look for, just in this area

I found the problem. I took the outer housing off and the gear is locked in place. With that the inner gear didn't move and sheared off the tip that goes in the slot on the cam. Big damn job now. Oh, and GEX used so much damn glue that the oil pump broke when I tried to get it out.

I was told that it wouldn't be covered since it was obviously "operator error." Apparently they have an unwritten rule that says even if a person were to follow the instructions, the aforementioned person didn't do it right.

doubt if pulling the oil pump is considered by most as
opening up a motor.....but GEX will probably interpret as such

If there was a true warranty, a reputable company would
of sent a replacement engine and had the
warranted/faulty engine shipped back to them
on their dime.

did you use VW type oil pump puller ?? and it still broke ??

usually it takes a foreign object lodged in the oil pump gears
to shear the drive tab that goes into the cam slot ??

I tore down an engine that had an exhaust valve head pop off
rattle around in the cylinder and finally broke the piston and
all of the shrapnel ended up inside the engine case....and
some of the aforementioned shrapnel lodged the oil pump gears
and the drive gear slipped on the shaft... but did not break the
tip off

if it was me for the crazy prices they charge i would request a warranty by throwing this engine through their front window.

Norskemann, I sure hope you paid for the engine with a credit card...I suppose if you didn't, you're SOL.

Unfortunately, you have joined the list of screwed GEX customers...Post your experience on The Samba and any other site that has rants about the company. Maybe someone (you perhaps) could start a class action lawsuit.

I do wish you well in this situation!!!!

P.S. My offer still stands.
