Popout Install 71 Super

Postby 71sup » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:10 am

Since I am currently waiting on parts to rebuild my engine 1776, I figure I would tackle what seem to be a simple window install/ upgrade. I actually got the popups for free with latches and hardware all of which had to be rebuilt. I followed a parts list from this page ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... er&start=0) but got the parts from (http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/) because of the quality of their rubber etc. I ended up paying $90 for inner/outer rubber, knobs, latch window rubber, hinge covers, and pinch welt. I also got 10/3/4 domain screws from Oreillys for the latch to body screws. Like everywhere you read installing the inner rubber window gaskets sucked to point that I did not bother with documenting rebuilding but dish washing soap, tie down straps horizontal and lateral with a mesh window installer tool worked well. This is what I started with.

Taking the window out was a snap I preferred to cut the rubber outside of the vehicle.

Continued-- press on the window to pop it out. It does help to have an extra pair of hands. Is that green under there? Could it be the original color? HMM

Here I my daughter laid the new window against the body to find the holes for hinge.

After finding the hinge holes I started to install the pinch welt. Cut to size and install hinge screws.

Now its time to install the screws for the latch. All that was needed was a punch and a phillips screwdriver.
