Wheel well rust...

Postby Bugzilla » Sat Dec 12, 2009 10:03 pm

Ground out a big rust spot, now I got a hole on the front passenger side. Should I fiberglass it up or take it in and have some sheet metel welded in? Any experience on patches?

ALWAYS metal! especially in a wheel well, moisture and all.

Come by with some beer, we can weld it in.

Yes! metal is the best. Jim I got beer, I should have you come over and help me put my 62 together.

Should I just pick of some sheet metal at Lowes? How thick? Sorry, I am a doof when it comes to this. I am an Electronics Tech so if there aren't little sparky things... I am clueless.

Most sheet metal on a bug is 18-20 gauge. Make sure you don't get something zinc plated. Bad fumes from that.

It's only about the size of a golfball, a little smaller.
