I'm going to use the volkswagen wheels that were on the Bug when I got it back from my Son...Why, well simple, at Bonneville, you have to have tires that are rated at, or above the speed you want to achieve. And...the tires are needed to be very thin...So, none of the cute, wide tires,or wheels, can make it past the tech people.

The tires we VW people have to use, are drag racing "Front Runners" (drag racing front wheel tires)...Regardless of the brand/make, most are required to be mounted on 3.5 to 4.5 inch rims, the tires, are rated to about 300 MPH...Most aftermarket wheels are 5.5 inch...way too wide. AND, would of any of you trust EMPI wheels, or any other currently available brand to those speeds???

Also, I need to have pressed in wheel studs, that when lug nuts are installed, the studs protrude beyond the lug nuts by a bunch of threads. The wheels I have, are compatible with the lug nuts I have to use.

Still nothing more to report, either than I had to remove the hood and engine cover seal channels from the body. Two years in Flagstaff, AZ did the Arizona rust-free body in. There was lots of surface rust UNDER the seal channels...Only way to get at it was to remove all the channel from the body. I'd show it to you all, but I have a free fiberglass front end sitting on the car at present. Well, you can see the engine cover seal area.

RE the free fiberglass front end...I had it given to me, but I have no idea what to do with it. It's not going on the car because I need weight up front, and the unit would defeat that idea.

Here's the front end I got for free.

You can see where I had to clean up the original seal channel area in this photo.

You'll notice the new rear apron i got from Derbug, it's going to be removable...right now It's only on to check for fit.

UPDATE:

Because of my lower back (two operations in the last two years), I haven't gotten as much done as I've wanted. I did get the rotating assembly down to Don Wise and got it all balanced. The pistons had previously been balanced, and the SCAT rods are balanced ( end-to-end and overall matched) from SCAT.

That said, here's some pics:

The first is an overall shot of the body on the cradle I built for it.

And finally, the chassis on the two Harbor Freight engine stands I modified to hold/support/rotate the chassis.

If you look at the chassis where the pedals would mount, the damn cancer is much worse than I thought...I hit it with a hammer and broke thru in two places.

I still have trouble accepting that I had those pans replaced about 25 years ago...With good GERMAN replacement pans...not any of the crap pans available today.

The car has been in the Family since 1986...Hard to believe almost 30 years...Since my Son was in High School in Edmond...Now he's a Doctor/Professor at the Arizona College of Oseteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona...Cheeze where was I when all this happened???
